The Coney Island Pavillion or The Parachute Pavillion

This pavilion should be like just a roof creeping on the land which does not make persons feel oppressive 
volumes and hard shapes. Because the Parachute Jump is very symbolic, the pavilion should not stand out on 
their relationship. From the court connecting the parking lot and the boardwalk, we can look up the Parachute 
Jump through a circle frame. The view is dramatic with a cherry tree. 

The Restaurant which floor is a gentle slope is like a theater to admire the Atlantic and the Parachute Jump 
through a ceiling slit. The Restaurant, Event Space and Deck, connected in personal flows and visually, can be
used together in multi purpose and various methods. They will be a big show case like a space ship’s bow, 
so the area around the pavilion will be covered with dramatic atmosphere. It reminds people Coney 
Island history. 

The Restaurant’s large sliding doors will be opened in comfortable seasons to feel the sea wind. The cherry 
tree will describe four seasons. And the glass walls, printed leaves, along the slope and four offices mean a
metaphor of delicate nature in the “space ship”. They will shine in the night. Please remember Noah’s ark. 

The roof will be made by rigid flames with steel. Columns are fixed stiffly into the foundation beams also.
Therefore the roof can be made thin and light. We will adopt FRP waterproofing and dry materials for the top 
of the roof. Only foundations and Kitchen core are made from RC.
